February 2017 Sitting Schedule

Sangha members and friends,

Following is our Sitting Schedule for February :

PLEASE NOTE : Yoga in Preparation for Sitting will not meet in February due to scheduling conflicts. It will return to a regular schedule in march.

Sun 02/05 : Yoga in Preparation for Sitting will not meet this evening.

Normal Sitting in Emerson Hall will be held at 7:00 PM. As part of our Sitting tonight, a bead ceremony will be conducted to recognize those Sangha members who have recently completed the 108 practice (Sitting 1 hour a day for 108 consecutive days).

Sun 02/12: Yoga In Preparation for Sitting will not meet this evening.

A Sangha Business meeting will be held in Emerson Hall at 6:00 PM. This meeting is open to everyone who attends Sitting and we hope to gain feedback from people with a range of practice, and Red Rose Sangha, experience. We will discuss the possibility of changing to 30 minute Sitting periods, whether and how to introduce additional sutras to the Sangha, and how we chant/repeat certain elements of the liturgy.

Normal Sitting in Emerson Hall will be held at 7:00 PM. Tonight, Sangetsu Sensei will lead our annual Metta meditation during the second Sitting period. We will have handouts available for those who wish to incorporate this into their home practice.

Sun 02/19: Text Study meets at 5:30 PM in Emerson Hall. We will continue discussing Zen: The Authentic Gate by Koun Yamada. The February reading assignment is Chapters 11 “Belief, Practice, Understanding, Realization, and Personalization” and 12 “Eight Great Tenets of Mahayana Buddhism”. David McMahan will facilitate our conversation.

Normal Sitting in Emerson Hall will be held at 7:00 PM. Milt Machalek will present tonight’s talk “Zen Sound Bites”.

Sat 02/25 : Zazenkai with Sensei Ed Sangetsu Sullivan and special guest John Ango Gruber from Soji Zen Center, 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM. A separate e-mail to follow will contain registration information and the day’s schedule.

Sun 02/26 : No Sitting tonight due to Zazenkai on Saturday.
